Sinema Tours Phoenix Dream Center, Secures Commitment from NFL to use Arizona’s Human Trafficking Victim Assistance Model for Entire Country

PHOENIX – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema toured the Dream Center – a Valley nonprofit committed to fighting human trafficking – and held a roundtable discussion with community partners, advocacy leaders, educators, and National Football League (NFL) representatives to highlight efforts combating human trafficking during the Super Bowl Weekend and year-round in Arizona.

“With roughly 100,000 visitors in Phoenix over the weekend, it was important that we had thorough plans in place cracking down on human trafficking. I’m thankful for the Dream Center’s work keeping Arizonans safe and secure during Super Bowl weekend and beyond,” said Sinema.

The discussion included representatives from the NFL, the Phoenix Dream Center, the McCain Institute, Arizona State University, and the Phoenix Police Department.

During the roundtable Sinema secured commitment from the NFL to bring Arizona’s innovative, effective victim assistance model to the rest of the country – a win that will provide support and services to help interrupt the cycle of trafficking rather than revictimize survivors.

Sinema acknowledged that, thanks to the incredible work of the roundtable participants and other practitioners in the state, Arizona serves as a shining example for how states can and should combat human trafficking.

Sinema recently re-introduced her bipartisan Human Trafficking Survivor Tax Relief Act – legislation supporting human trafficking survivors as they rebuild their lives by exempting civil damages, restitution, and other monetary awards from federal income taxes.
