Sinema’s Bipartisan Bill Expands Pell Grants for Arizona Students in Job-Training Programs

Apr 8, 2021

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema introduced the JOBS Act—bipartisan legislation that makes Pell Grants accessible to Arizona students participating in job-training programs.

“Pell Grants opened up opportunities for me, helping me pursue a college education—and by expanding Pell Grant eligibility to include job-training programs, we’re helping Arizona students turn their dreams into reality,” said Sinema.

Under current law, Pell Grants do not apply to Arizona students in occupational training programs. Sinema’s JOBS Act addresses this gap and expands Pell Grant eligibility to include students enrolled in rigorous and high-quality short-term skills and job-training programs that lead to industry-based credentials. Sinema’s bill also establishes requirements for these credentials to help ensure they lead to good-paying jobs. Sinema also cosponsored this bipartisan legislation in the 116th Congress.

Sinema relied on loans and scholarships to afford college and is committed to ensuring current and future generations have quality educational opportunities.
