Sinema Meets with Salt River Project Leaders, Discusses Arizona’s Energy & Water Future

May 20, 2022

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema met with Salt River Project (SRP) leaders to discuss Arizona’s energy and water future.

“Salt River Project’s work ensuring reliable and affordable water and power for Arizona families is critically important as our state experiences historic drought. We’ll keep partnering with local and federal leaders to secure Arizona’s water and energy future,” said Sinema.

In their meeting with Sinema, SRP updated the Senator on its six solar projects currently at risk due to a U.S. Department of Commerce investigation on Auxin Solar. The investigation is creating uncertainty for utilities, solar installers, and homeowners seeking to install solar panels. Sinema and a bipartisan group of senators requested the Commerce Department conduct an expedited preliminary review to settle this matter.

Sinema underscored her commitment to mitigate the real impacts climate change is having on Arizona communities and businesses, while working to grow the state’s economy. The bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs law that Sinema co-authored and led negotiations makes historic investments strengthening Arizona’s water systems and electricity and power grids.

Sinema recently introduced the STREAM Act – legislation that authorizes investments for water storage, recycling, and desalination projects, building on investments Sinema secured in her bipartisan infrastructure law.
