Federal transportation funding will help complete the Northwest Light Rail Extension, advancing and strengthening Arizona’s infrastructure

WASHINGTON – Arizona Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly applauded $49.4 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help fund Valley Metro’s Northwest Light Rail Extension.

“Today’s funding announcement represents a critical next step in the Northwest Light Rail Extension. Investing in Arizona’s infrastructure creates jobs, expands transportation options, and grows Arizona’s economy. I’ll continue supporting infrastructure investment in our state and creating opportunities for all Arizonans,” said Sinema.

“This expansion of Valley Metro Light Rail will further connect the region with affordable transportation options and lead to greater economic growth. Investing in infrastructure is key to bringing more jobs to our state and rebuilding a stronger economy for the future,” said Kelly.

Today’s funding announcement comes as a Capital Investment Grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and it marks another stage in the project’s advancement towards readiness to receive a construction grant agreement. The funding follows a recent funding announcement for the South Central Light Rail Extension of $530 million from the FTA’s Capitol Investment Grants Program and $108 million from the Federal Highway Administration.
