Sinema-backed bill awards the Congressional Gold Medal to the ‘Hello Girls’ for their service in World War I

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema cosponsored the Hello Girls Congressional Gold Medal Act – bipartisan legislation awarding a Congressional Gold Medal to the all-women telephone operator group, known as the “Hello Girls”, of World War I.

“We’re honoring World War I’s ‘Hello Girls,’ who answered the call to serve with grit and determination when our country needed them,” said Sinema.

In WWI, American women known as the “Hello Girls” served as telephone operators for the Army Signal Corps and were essential in conveying battlefield communications.

The Sinema-backed bill honors the Hello Girls, several of whom were injured or killed in the line of duty, with a Congressional Gold Medal for their role in the United States’ success in WWI.
