The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities played a key role in the robust religious freedom protections in Sinema’s Respect for Marriage law

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema met with the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities to discuss the importance of building broad-based coalitions to deliver meaningful, lasting results. The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities helped advance Sinema’s Respect for Marriage Act into law by ensuring the legislation included robust religious freedom protections.

“We achieved success with our Respect for Marriage law by building inclusive coalitions and focusing on what unites us. Through our work with the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, we ensured our legislation included the religious freedoms our nation was founded on, and earned the support needed to provide Arizonans of all backgrounds peace of mind,” said Sinema.

While negotiating the bipartisan Respect for Marriage Act, Sinema built a diverse and inclusive coalition of religious groups – including the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – to ensure the legislation protected and respected religious liberty.

The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities is a higher education association of more than 185 Christian institutions around the world. Since 1976, the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities has served as the leading national voice of Christian higher education.
